Everything associated with Lord Krishna is unique and mysterious. Perhaps this is why He is referred to as the complete and supreme avatar. His birth, too, is shrouded in such mystique. In Indian Sanatan tradition, the festival of a person is usually named after them. For example Shivaratri, Ramnavami, Buddha Purnima, Kalki Jayanti, etc. Accordingly, the day of Shravan Vad Ashtami should have been named Shri Krishna Janmashtami or Shri Krishnashtami or Krishna Jayanti. Yet, it is termed: Janmashtami, which means the Ashtami of birth.

This is because, on every Shravan Krishna Ashtami, the universe is imbued with energies that allow us to upgrade ourselves and manifest what we desire.

On Shravan Krishna Ashtami, a portal for upgradation is active in our universe. So, wherever you are on Earth, during this time when the moon is in Rohini Nakshatra, from midnight until one ghati (24 minutes) past midnight, the energies are available for us to upgrade ourselves.

Ancient scientists, or Rishis, were aware of this phenomenon and thus facilitated temple visits at night so that we could utilize these energies effectively.

During this period every year, the Sun is in its sign, Leo, and the Moon is exalted in Taurus in the Rohini Nakshatra.

The Sun is considered the soul of universal time or ‘Kala,’ while the Moon is considered the mind. A verse from Jataka Parijata elucidates:

कालस्य आत्मा भास्कर: चित्तमिन्दु:।
“Kalasyatma Bhaskara: Chittamindu:”

So, by referring to your regional calendar or ‘Panchang,’ you must utilize this 24-minute time frame. For instance, this year, during Janmashtami, I will be in India. Rohini Nakshatra will commence at 15:55 PM on Monday, 26th August 2024, and will last until 27th August 15:53 PM.

Therefore, the Janmashtami festival will be celebrated at midnight on 26th August.

From 00:00 AM to 00:24 AM on 27th August, in India, the portal for manifestation or upgradation will be open.

Take note of what you desire in life or any changes you wish to bring about. During this 24-minute window, with single-minded focus, visualize this wish on your third eye chakra, also known as ‘Ajna Chakra.’

For these 24 minutes, think only about this wish or make a request to your chosen deity or divine entity to fulfill this desire.

According to the scriptures, your wish will be instantly granted. Even if there is no specific wish, meditating during this period will still allow you to upgrade yourself.

Shubham Bhavatu.
